As the air starts to cool and the breeze blows a little fresher these autumn mornings, we are reminded of what’s great about travelling off-season. After the crowds have melted away, life resumes as normal for the locals and you get a feel of what a place is really like in an every day context and at a slower pace. To see a city through the eyes of its residents is something special and not an experience you often get when travelling in peak season. And, whilst there is often gorgeous, bright sunshine, the searing heat has gone and it’s a fresher, kinder climate in which to explore. Imagine wandering among the incredibly haunting remains of Pompeii at a time of year when it is virtually devoid of tourists, climbing the steps to the Parthenon with time to take in the fabulous views without being jostled or exploring the incredible desert pyramids of Meroë in Sudan, engulfed by the golden sands of the Sahara. What's more, we also have a couple of early 2022 Study Days available, should you wish to start the new year with a fascinating toe-dip into the working world of archaeology.
