No other Ancient Historian or Classicist has captured the public’s attention as Dame Mary Beard, who has written seminal works on Pompeii and Rome, and has shaped a generation’s view of the ancient world through a series of ground breaking documentaries. Mary Beard will offer her unique insights to the Roman and Imperial Fora and will guide you around one of the most intriguing ancient monuments, namely the Montetestaccio, a 35-metre-high mound made up of ancient pottery sherds. Guests will also be treated to an evening lecture given by Mary, as well as a gala dinner. This tour is co-led by an Andante Guide Lecturer, who will show guests other wonders of ancient Rome, including the Forum Boarium, with the Basilica of Santa Maria in Cosmedin, where ancient Romans picked up the grain dole, and the Campus Martius, home to the Pantheon.  The tour will end with a visit to the spectacular Hadrianic Villa at Tivoli.

Tour highlights:

  • Private visit to Montetestaccio – the artificial mound 35 metres tall made up of Roman amphora sherds
  • Evening lecture and gala dinner with Mary Beard
  • Visit the enormous Hadrianic Villa in Tivoli
