Summary

From the Iron Age to Roman Britain.

Wessex is home to some of the most important prehistoric monuments in England, most notably the staggering Stonehenge, whose complexities defy comprehension and the magnificent henge and stone circles at Avebury, as well as the mysterious Uffington Horse. During this tour, we will be exploring these ancient monuments on foot, as well as examining treasures from later periods, including the enormous Iron Age fort of Maiden Castle and the magnificent Roman villa at Fishbourne. Tour highlights:

  • Visit the iconic monument of Stonehenge to examine the factors contributing to its erection
  • Explore how Uffington’s unique remains, including the white horse and hill fort, are connected
  • Venture to the famous Roman villa at Fishbourne to study its important history and mosaics
